“Once Upon a Niece”

Once upon a niece, I gave a piece of this uncle’s heart to follow her through the years. Not limited to my cultural roots, even our cousins’ kids are considered our nephews and nieces too. I remember those ‘younger adult’ days- shopping discounted Southwest Airline getaways to sunny Ft. Lauderdale or Long Beach or New Jersey (?) to visit my cousins and savor the elation of their beautiful children growing up. Time spent with family had no need for any elaborate activities or outings other than hanging out, listening to their hilarious stories, sharing meals and washing dishes. Who knew the opportunity would present itself to find an archived expression of this munchkin-turned med school scholar? What better way to celebrate a ‘throw back Thursday’ than to share a shout out to my dear Tammy and say, ‘Much love to you and all your siblings, always, from Uncle Ramon’
