Believable

He’s a living example of defying all odds, of unprecedented resilience, and a beacon of hope to show the world how nothing is impossible. We’ve known each other since the seventh grade. Fast forward attending his med school graduation, marriage celebration, and a plethora of profound memories, it’s a blessing to know that after coming out of a massive stroke, Tony is still the same, witty, brilliant, loving, fill-the-entire-room-with-laughs-Tony. 

It’s the third time I’m visiting my dear friend at the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab- arguably one of the best rehab facilities in the country. Witnessing the progress he’s made is both mind blowing and incredible. Despite my occasional bouts of pain, being able to feel strong enough to make it downtown and spend just a little time with Tony serves as a small way of showing that I’m rooting for his best recovery possible, and that his journey inspires my own. For many of us in the throes of being there for others, this is truly a version of hope that is believable...
