My good friend and fellow brown Naperville resident sent this over- I almost choked on my food when I saw it. Maybe if I was in high school 5 years from now, I’d be auditioning for a ‘Riverdale-like’ series exploring coming of age. It could be about confronting the inner demons of cultural differences mixed in with some crazy good humor that embraces the 2nd generation Asian American trials and tribulations of trying to fit in and stay true to oneself...
Who are we these days anyway? It’s a question that seems to come up more often than not- especially with what seems to define and redefine every instance of where we exist. I’m more than an artist or a cancer fighter, but how much more and in what context? What do any of us see when we look in the ‘social media mirror’ and see our ‘online self?’ My social media footprint is about as relevant as the cummerbund on a tuxedo- not really noticed or remembered. Maybe that’s a big part of why I’ve been incommunicado- for there are other reflections worth paying attention to...
At least it was more simple back then. I’d like to think we have evolved leaps and bounds since my time in high school, but it feels like we’ve taken the infamous one step forward and two steps back on many fronts. Here’s to hoping for a less tainted daydream of a better world, despite all this Riverdale Cummerbundango Mumbo Jumbo...
